Dhaka, February 10, 2025 – Bangladesh is aiming to expand its trade relationship with Mexico by setting a target of $1 billion in exports. Ambassador Mushfiqul Fazal Ansari made this announcement during the “Meet the Ambassador” event in Mexico City on Sunday.
He emphasized the importance of diversifying Bangladesh’s export portfolio, focusing on sectors such as ready-made garments, pharmaceuticals, leather goods, IT services, and agricultural products. “Our goal is to expand our trade with Mexico, ensuring long-term economic growth for Bangladesh,” said Ambassador Ansari.
Expanding Trade and Job Opportunities
Bangladesh’s economy thrives on exports, with textiles and apparel leading the way. However, the ambassador stressed the need to diversify into pharmaceuticals, IT services, and agriculture. Mexico’s expanding market offers a great chance for Bangladeshi exporters, especially in these industries. Strengthening trade in these sectors could open new doors for businesses and boost economic ties between the two nations.
Trade between Bangladesh and Mexico has grown steadily in recent years, according to the Bangladesh Export Promotion Bureau (EPB). Mexico is already a key buyer of Bangladeshi textiles. Expanding into other industries could create a stronger trade partnership. With rising demand in pharmaceuticals, IT, and agriculture, businesses have an opportunity to tap into new markets and increase exports.
The Bangladesh Embassy in Mexico is actively working to secure jobs for skilled Bangladeshi workers. Ambassador Ansari highlighted the growing demand for IT professionals, engineers, and agricultural experts in Mexico. He assured that the embassy would support job placements in these specialized fields. Collaborations with Mexican employers and labor organizations will help streamline the hiring process and create more opportunities.
Addressing migration concerns, the ambassador urged workers to follow legal procedures. He emphasized Bangladesh’s zero-tolerance policy on human trafficking and called for stronger awareness programs. Cases of illegal migration remain a concern, and the embassy aims to provide legal guidance for those seeking jobs abroad. Ambassador Ansari encouraged expatriates to stay informed and avoid fraudulent job offers.
Role of Expatriates in Bangladesh’s Economy
Remittances from Bangladeshi expatriates play a crucial role in the national economy. The ambassador acknowledged their contributions and assured that the embassy would work towards their welfare.
He also encouraged expatriates to comply with Mexico’s local laws and integrate into the country’s socio-cultural environment. “Strengthening people-to-people ties is key to fostering positive relations between Bangladesh and Mexico,” he added.
Tribute to National Martyrs and Bangladesh’s Progress
During the event, Ambassador Ansari paid tribute to the martyrs of the July Uprising and acknowledged Bangladesh’s progress. “Now is the time to present Bangladesh as a disciplined, civilized, and prosperous nation on the global stage,” he stated.
He also expressed pride in Nobel Laureate Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, who has taken charge of the interim government. The ambassador voiced confidence that Professor Yunus would oversee a free and credible election, restoring the people’s ownership of the country.
Community Support and Future Initiatives
The Bangladeshi community in Mexico actively took part in the event. They congratulated the ambassador on his new role and expressed their support. Everyone showed enthusiasm for his initiatives and discussed ways to contribute. The gathering created a friendly atmosphere where ideas and encouragement flowed freely.
Abdullah Al Farhad, the embassy’s Head of Chancery, moderated the meeting. The discussion focused on boosting cooperation between Bangladesh and Mexico. Attendees shared thoughts on strengthening diplomatic ties and expanding opportunities. The open conversation allowed everyone to exchange ideas and explore new possibilities.
Bangladesh is taking important steps to expand exports and build stronger trade relations with Mexico. The embassy plans to diversify export sectors and promote legal employment. These efforts will open economic opportunities for Bangladeshis. Strengthening bilateral ties will not only boost trade but also support long-term economic growth.
