DAVOS (Switzerland), Jan 23, 2025 – World Bank Managing Director for Operations, Anna Bjerde, reaffirmed the institution’s support for the rebuilding efforts of Bangladesh under the Interim Government. Bjerde made this statement during a meeting with Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum’s annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland, as reported by Abul Kalam Azad Majumder, Deputy Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser.
During the meeting, Bjerde conveyed the World Bank’s commitment to assist Bangladesh with its ongoing recovery and development. “I want to express our support. Count on us for whatever support you want,” she assured Professor Yunus, emphasizing the bank’s readiness to provide necessary assistance to the country.
The World Bank Managing Director outlined that the bank plans to extend its support to Bangladesh in the latter half of the year, focusing on key areas of economic and structural development. The discussions also touched on significant events such as the July uprising, the Interim Government’s reform initiatives, and the current state of Bangladesh’s economy.
In addition to the World Bank’s Managing Director, the meeting was attended by Lamiya Morshed, the SDG Coordinator for the Bangladesh government, and Tareq Ariful Islam, the country’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva.
This interaction marks another step in the ongoing partnership between the World Bank and Bangladesh, as the country continues to navigate its path toward long-term stability and growth under the leadership of the Interim Government.
