Chief Adviser Professor Mohammad Yunus will visit China from March 26 to 29. The trip is called the most important visit by a Bangladeshi leader in 50 years. Ambassador Yao added, “We are working very closely with Bangladesh…we are still discussing.” His comments came after meeting Foreign Secretary Md Jashim Uddin at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He also noted that the two nations now celebrate 50 years of diplomatic ties.
Key Discussions and Meetings
During the visit, Dr. Yunus will attend several high-level events. On March 27, he will join the inaugural plenary session at the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2025 in Boao, South China’s Hainan Province. The forum is often called the “Davos of the East.” Here, top Asian leaders and CEOs will gather to discuss new development strategies.
On March 28, Dr. Yunus and Chinese President Xi Jinping will hold their first-ever bilateral meeting. This meeting is expected to boost strategic dialogue and foster economic cooperation between both nations.
Ambassador Yao called on the chief adviser at the State Guest House Jamuna. Their discussion focused on the upcoming visit and potential announcements. When asked about new agreements, he advised, “Wait and see. We are still working on it.”
Meanwhile, Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain told reporters that no agreement will be signed during the visit. However, he confirmed that a few MoUs may be signed. The discussions will emphasize relocating Chinese factories to Bangladesh. This move aims to create a manufacturing hub in Bangladesh. Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam stressed that this focus will create jobs and boost exports globally.
Strategic Outcomes
The visit will also include a series of high-level engagements. Dr. Yunus will attend a program at Peking University on March 29 before returning to Dhaka on the same day. During his trip, he will have several meetings with top business leaders and government officials. These sessions will address regulatory reforms and investment incentives. In his discussions, leaders will explore ways to take bilateral ties to a new height. They will also consider how best to strengthen Bangladesh China relations. Moreover, the visit marks a significant step in the strategic partnership between Bangladesh and China.
Ambassador Yao recently stated, “China and Bangladesh are best friends and trustworthy partners.” He added that China’s policy remains steadfast despite any political changes in Bangladesh. This visit is set to boost both countries’ economic ties and improve mutual cooperation for the benefit of their people.
Looking Ahead
This milestone visit paves the way for stronger economic cooperation. It highlights a clear focus on sustainable industrial growth. By relocating Chinese factories, both nations aim to create a robust manufacturing base. The chief adviser’s engagements at the Boao Forum and bilateral meetings will likely produce tangible outcomes. As Bangladesh and China celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations, this visit promises new investment opportunities and a renewed strategic partnership.
