Davos, Switzerland, January 24, 2025 – At the World Economic Forum’s annual meeting, International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva acknowledged significant strides by global policymakers in addressing inflation without triggering a recession. However, she emphasized that the battle against inflation remains unfinished.
“The head of the genie is in the bottle, most of the body of the genie is in the bottle, kind of getting stuck there, but the legs are kind of hanging still out,” Georgieva remarked during the Economic Outlook session. “We need to push it all the way down.”
Georgieva also highlighted the impact of shifting geopolitical dynamics on global trade and economic relationships. She stated, “I think that there is no way we can wipe out collaboration from the future of humanity.”
Her comments underscore the IMF’s cautious optimism regarding the global economy’s trajectory, acknowledging both the progress made and the challenges that persist.
