Rebecca Sonnenshine to Lead the Project
Rebecca Sonnenshine is known for her work on The Boys and The Vampire Diaries. She will serve as showrunner and executive producer for the reboot.
Sonnenshine shared her deep connection to the book series. She recalled how it inspired her to become a writer. “I fell in love with these books at five years old,” she said. “It’s an honor to reimagine these stories for a new global audience with Netflix.”
She will collaborate with Trip Friendly of Friendly Family Productions. Other executive producers include Joy Gorman Wettels of Joy Coalition, Dana Fox, and Susanna Fogel.

A Modern Take on a Frontier Tale
Netflix describes the reboot as “part hopeful family drama, part epic survival tale, and part origin story of the American West.”
The adaptation will explore the struggles and triumphs of those who shaped the frontier. It will also offer a diverse and immersive perspective.
This reimagining aims to balance nostalgia with fresh storytelling. It will remain relevant for today’s audience while preserving its classic themes of resilience, family, and community.
