Thousands of Venmo users in the U.S. are unable to log into their accounts due to a major outage. The problem started around 9:44 a.m. ET on Thursday, as confirmed on Venmo’s status page.
Venmo, owned by PayPal, said, “We are still seeing issues with Venmo Friend Feed and Logins.” The company assured users that its technical teams are working to fix the problem as quickly as possible.
According to Downdetector, a website that tracks outages, the issue has affected many people on the East Coast, with some users on the West Coast also facing problems. About 69% of reports mentioned app issues, 23% were about login failures, and 8% were website-related.
Venmo is widely used for sending and receiving money. Many businesses also rely on it for payments. With over 83 million users, the outage has caused frustration, with people sharing their complaints on social media. Some users say they see a “spinning wheel of death” when opening the app, while others receive a “502 Bad Gateway error,” which usually means a server problem.
At 11:41 a.m. ET, Venmo gave another update: “We are having a system issue affecting the Venmo Friend Feed. Our technical teams are working to fix it.”
Venmo has not yet said when the issue will be resolved. Users are advised to check Venmo’s official pages for updates.
This outage highlights how much people and businesses rely on digital payment apps. When they stop working, many face serious problems completing transactions.
