Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus issued a stark warning about destabilization attempts during the International Women’s Day 2025 celebration at Osmani Memorial Auditorium. He revealed that a fallen autocrat is investing heavily to create chaos across the country. Yunus urged citizens to remain vigilant and safeguard women and children against possible threats.
“We must now remain as vigilant as we would in a wartime situation,” Yunus said. He called for social unity to combat oppression and promote a peaceful society.
Women’s Struggles and Contributions
Professor Yunus reflected on the long struggles that shaped women’s rights today. He explained how women played key roles in movements like the Tebhaga uprising, the Language Movement, and the Liberation War. Because of their dedication, society has changed over time. Their efforts have built the foundation for the rights and freedoms women enjoy now.
“Whatever rights and freedoms women enjoy today have been earned through their struggles and movements,” Yunus said. However, he regretted that many heroic women remain unrecognized. He strongly emphasized that history must never forget the sacrifices of the ‘July Daughters.’ Their courage and dedication deserve more appreciation and respect.
The Chief Adviser also spoke about men’s role in women’s empowerment. He pointed out that real progress can only happen when men and women work together. “To establish women’s rightful place in society, men must work alongside women as allies,” he said. Furthermore, he urged families to rebuild their structures in ways that promote fairness, equality, and inclusivity for all.
A Call for Courage and Change
Yunus described International Women’s Day as a powerful symbol of courage and inspiration. He encouraged women’s rights advocates to stay determined, push past challenges, and make the most of historic opportunities. He emphasized that real change comes from action, not just words.
“No matter the obstacles, we must fully seize the opportunities that history has given us. We will build a new Bangladesh. This is our pledge,” he said with determination. His words carried a strong message of hope and responsibility, urging everyone to take part in the movement.
His speech served as a clear call for unity, awareness, and gender equality. He stressed that both men and women must work together to create a fair and peaceful society. More importantly, the celebration reminded everyone of women’s vital role in Bangladesh’s history and the shared duty to build a brighter future.
